October really is one of the best months of the year. You can still get seasonal fresh produce at farmers markets (yes there are some open…here’s where we’ll be!), the weather gets cooler, football season is in full swing, and the vegetables and fruits we get to play with in our cooking shift to winter varieties. Another thing we love about October: the Holiday season is coming up! And what’s better than Halloween followed by Thanksgiving followed by Christmas/Hanukkah/Winter break?
Halloween is such a fun way to kick this holiday season off. To whatever degree you do or do not adhere to this objectively bizarre holiday, it is admittedly difficult to not get taken in by all the decorations in stores and around town. Cute bats, carving jack-o-lanterns, and scarecrows. It’s hard not to get sucked in! One of the reasons we enjoy Halloween so much is because in a lot of ways, it celebrates the weird and the wacky. And we are ALL about that! From cooking strange, outlandish foods (just search Pinterest for that one) to dressing up in the most culturally-appropriate costumes, this holiday is all about creativity.
While there are countless ways to get creative with black garlic, we have to applaud those who truly went above and beyond the call of duty. Here are some of the wackiest products we’ve found online. Which would you try?
1. Black Garlic Ketchup
We decided to start tame. In all honesty, black garlic ketchup sounds absolutely delicious. Has anyone had sriracha ketchup? Or tandoori ketchup? You really can’t go wrong with adding something you love to a condiment that you love.
2. Black Garlic Sugar
Kind of like the ketchup, what’s not to love about black garlic sugar? Plus it could be really interesting in a cup of coffee…anyone want to create a fall latte with black garlic sugar and share the recipe with us? Pretty please?
3. Black Garlic Chocolate Truffles
We seem to have entered a new realm with black garlic chocolate truffles. We love the creativity behind this idea, and bet the black garlic adds a really nice balsamic-y flavor to these truffles.
4. Black Garlic Ice Cream
If nothing else, the abundance of sweet black garlic creations seems to just prove that black garlic and dessert go together like macaroni and cheese. Ice cream with a little hint of balsamic? YUM.
5. Black Garlic Beer
Okay, here’s one we’re dying to try. Black garlic beer? This idea sounds genius.
6. Black Garlic Vodka
Can anyone say “perfect vodka for black garlic bloodies?” Because we can…here’s a recipe.
7. Black Garlic Doritos
This is honestly the only black garlic product that we aren’t 100% sure about. Has anyone tried these? What on earth do they taste like? Picturing something like Cooler Ranch…but black?
There is no limit to human creativity. With an ingredient as versatile as black garlic, the possibilities are endless!
